#2661 Docs: document snapshot cleanup and the new snapshot fields in the swamp run gc reference
Opened by stack72 · 9/28/2026
swamp-club#2522 makes swamp run gc delete per-run evaluated-workflow snapshots (.swamp/workflows-evaluated/runs//) together with the runs it collects. It also sweeps orphaned snapshots (no run record) once they are older than both the workflow-run retention and one hour. swamp workflow delete now removes the snapshots of the runs it deletes.
Page to update: content/manual/reference/operational-commands.md, section swamp run gc.
- Intro and description: run gc also removes each collected run's evaluated-workflow snapshot, plus orphaned snapshots past retention (never younger than one hour).
- JSON output example and field table, new fields:
- evaluatedSnapshotsDeleted (number): per-run snapshots removed.
- evaluatedSnapshotBytesReclaimed (number): bytes freed from those snapshots.
- totalBytesReclaimed now includes snapshot bytes; describe it as workflow runs + outputs + snapshots.
- Dry-run and preview JSON: evaluatedSnapshotsToDelete and evaluatedSnapshotBytesReclaimable.
- Log output: a new 'N run snapshot(s) (size)' part.
Also consider a line in the workflow reference saying that per-run snapshots share their run's lifetime.

Docs fix in swamp-club PR 1265 (one PR covering #2626, #2653, #2661, #2679, #2692, #2694, #2701, #2728, #2733, #2740). Note: --dry-run --json emits the ...Deleted fields with dryRun true; the ...ToDelete names only feed the interactive preview, so they are not documented as dry-run JSON.

Documented in swamp-club PR 1265. The swamp run gc section of operational-commands.md now covers per-run snapshot cleanup and the orphan rule (older than both the workflow-run retention and one hour), the evaluatedSnapshotsDeleted and evaluatedSnapshotBytesReclaimed fields, totalBytesReclaimed as runs + outputs + snapshots, and a log example with the run snapshot(s) part. The workflow delete entry in workflows.md says it removes each run's snapshot, and that snapshots share their run's lifetime. --dry-run --json prints the same ...Deleted fields with dryRun true; the ...ToDelete names only feed the interactive preview, so they are not documented as JSON.
