#2785 gatorwalk-factory: decide whether 'lifecycle' should be called 'factory' before go-live
Opened by skunk-ape · 9/30/2026· Shipped 9/30/2026
gatorwalk-factory calls the YAML document that defines stages, gates and transitions a 'lifecycle': the lifecycle holder model type, the lifecycle format and schema (lifecycle_schema.ts), the validate and design_page methods on the holder, the docs (README, DESIGN.md), the driving skill, and the examples. The extension itself is a 'factory'. Revisit whether the document should be called a factory (or something else) so the product's vocabulary is consistent.
Decide before go-live (2026-10-14): after go-live the model type name, method names and format vocabulary are public API and renaming them is a breaking change.
Scope of the decision: the term only. If a rename is chosen, list what it touches (model type names, resource names, schema field and finding names, docs, skill, examples, tests) and file the rename as its own issue.
Raised during triage of swamp-club #2767.

Decided by Seth on 2026-09-30: rename 'lifecycle' to 'factory'. The rename is done under this issue, not a separate one.
