#1728 "TRIAL ENDED" modal shown to team plan user when toggling extension visibility

Opened by magistr · 8/19/2026

When viewing an extension on swamp-club.com and toggling between public/private visibility, a "TRIAL ENDED - Your 30-day free trial has ended. Private extensions need a paid plan." modal is shown.

This appears to be a billing/entitlement check bug — the user is on a team plan, not a trial. The modal should not appear for team plan members.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Log into swamp-club.com as a team plan user
  2. Navigate to any owned extension page
  3. Observe the "TRIAL ENDED" modal overlay

Expected: No trial modal — team plan entitlements should include private extension visibility toggle.

Actual: "TRIAL ENDED" modal blocks the UI with "View plans →" link.

User context: @magistr, team plan member.

Filed #1852 for what looks like the same entitlement check on the data-write side: the product actually grants a trial to collectives that already have an active paid subscription, stamping trial_started_at / trial_ends_at / trial_trigger on them.

Concrete case: collective hivemq has been paying since 2026-07-14 (Team, 5 seats) and was granted a trial on 2026-08-17 via trigger creating a Swamp Server token. Collective twonines was granted one forty seconds later via trigger marking an extension private — the same action described in this issue.

If the modal here and the grant there share one entitlement check, fixing it should close both.
