01README

Drive a running Glamorous Toolkit (GT) from swamp — and so from Claude.

GT ships its own MCP server (GtLMcpServer) with the tools of its LLM harness. This model starts GT with that server on and talks to it; it does not reimplement GT. Methods:

  • start / stop / status — launch GT with the MCP server (idempotent), quit it (optionally saving the image), report reachability, tool count, open windows and GT processes.
  • eval — evaluate Smalltalk; the result lands in GT's object storage and comes back with an objectId, class, print string and its views.
  • view — render any Phlow view of a stored object (list, columned list, tree, text) to rows, through Phlow's declarative specifications.
  • open — open row N of a view, as a click in GT would; a new objectId.
  • inspect — open a GT inspector window on an object, for the human.
  • screenshot — PNG of a GT window or of one view rendered offscreen, for views that are pictures (graphs, explicit views).
  • tools / tool — every tool GT's server exposes: class and method search, Lepiter pages and snippets, compiling methods, running examples.

Every caller value that becomes Smalltalk is quoted as a string literal or checked against a strict identifier/selector/object-id grammar. Large results travel through files, since GT truncates print strings at 50 000 characters.

02Release Notes

2026.09.28.1

  • The bundled gtoolkit skill is now published with the extension (the manifest lacked skills:).
  • Skill references: pharo-syntax.md (Smalltalk for evaluations), gt-apis.md (Phlow views, examples, Lepiter, the UI thread, Brick widgets, windows and screenshots, external processes, saving) and pitfalls.md (every failure seen driving GT, with the fix).

requestTimeoutMsnumberTimeout for one request to GT

Resources

status(infinite)— Whether GT's MCP server answers, its tool count, open windows and GT processes
evaluation(infinite)— Result of Smalltalk evaluated in GT: object id, class, print string, available views, or the error
view(infinite)— One Phlow view of a GT object rendered to columns and rows (or text)
tools(infinite)— Tools GT's MCP server exposes
tool-result(infinite)— Result of one GT MCP tool call

2026.09.27.1

  • First release. @magistr/gtoolkit drives a running Glamorous Toolkit through GT's own MCP server (GtLMcpServer with GtLTools gt): start, stop, status, eval, view, open, inspect, screenshot, tools, tool.
  • Views are rendered to rows through Phlow's declarative specifications (the Remote Phlow serialisation), following forward views; large results travel through files because GT truncates print strings at 50 000 characters.
  • inspect queues the window on GT's UI frame (its main GtWorld): opening an inspector from the MCP worker process raised BrEditorWrongThreadError.
  • Every caller value that becomes Smalltalk is a quoted literal or passes a strict identifier / selector / object-id grammar.
