#2551 Docs: manual examples show the old workflow skip line without the step name

Opened by hammz · 9/25/2026

What changes

swamp-club#2538 changes log-mode workflow run output so that a skipped step's line names the step, the same way the done and failed lines do. Old and new forms:

main │ skipped (guarded) · guard: <expr>
main │ skipped <step> (guarded) · guard: <expr>

forEach iterations name their expanded step too, for example fetch[0] │ skipped fetch-dev (guarded). Job skip lines are unchanged.

Pages to update

  • content/manual/how-to/make-workflows-idempotent.md: the example runs show lines like main │ skipped (guarded) · guard: data.latest('provisioner', 'result') and the per-region provisioner variants.
  • content/manual/reference/workflows.md: the guard section shows skipped (guarded) · guard: data.latest("checker", "result").attributes.exitCode == 0.

Suggested content

Put the skipped step's name after the word skipped in each example, taking it from the step named in the surrounding prose or YAML. Update once the #2538 fix is released.

Documented in https://github.com/swamp-club/swamp-club/pull/1259. The skip lines in how-to/make-workflows-idempotent.md and reference/workflows.md now name the step, taken from a real run on swamp 20260928.230545. The forEach examples also now show the real iteration label (provision-${{ self.region }}[0]) and the guard as written, not evaluated.
