#3823 Docs: install-swamp says SWAMP_HOME moves everything, but agent skill folders stay in the user's home folder

Opened by stack72 · 10/23/2026· Shipped 10/23/2026

content/manual/how-to/install-swamp.md (the Windows "allowed folder" section) says Swamp "runs and unpacks everything under C:\Sources\Repo\.swamp" and that "nothing new appears in C:\Users\[REDACTED]\.swamp". That's true for swamp's own files: binaries, deno, deno-cache, config and login. But swamp update and swamp repo init still write swamp's skills into each AI agent's own skills folder under the user's home folder:

  • %USERPROFILE%\.agents\skills (Codex, Amp, OpenCode, Copilot, Cursor, Pi, Antigravity)
  • %USERPROFILE%\.claude\skills
  • %USERPROFILE%\.kiro\skills

That's intended, because those folders are the only place the agents read skills from. A user who followed this page reported it as a bug in swamp-club#3813.

Suggested addition after the paragraph about what ends up in SWAMP_HOME: "Your AI agent's skills are the exception: swamp keeps them in the agent's own folder under your user profile (for example %USERPROFILE%\.agents\skills), because that's where the agent reads them. They're Markdown files, not programs, so application control doesn't block them." The same note applies to the macOS/Linux SWAMP_HOME paragraph.
