#3819 behavior type describe <installed extension name> suggests a registry search instead of the type it provides
Opened by kagarmoe · 10/23/2026· Shipped 10/23/2026
Description
When you pass an extension's name to swamp behavior type describe and that extension is installed, the error suggests searching the registry for it. It doesn't point to the type the installed extension actually provides:
$ swamp behavior type describe @swamp/vercel/deployments
Error: Behavior type not found: @swamp/vercel/deployments
This type may be available as an extension:
Search: swamp extension search vercel/deploymentsBut @swamp/vercel/deployments v2026.10.13.1 is installed (swamp extension list shows it), and the type it provides is @swamp/vercel/deployments/deployments. An earlier version printed Install: swamp extension pull @swamp/vercel/deployments, which was even more misleading.
Extension names and type names look alike, so this is an easy mistake. swamp behavior type search results also list extension names, which reinforces it.
Steps to reproduce
swamp extension pull @swamp/vercel/deploymentsswamp behavior type describe @swamp/vercel/deployments→ the error above
Expected
When the requested name matches an installed extension, say so and list the types it provides, e.g. Did you mean @swamp/vercel/deployments/deployments? (provided by installed extension @swamp/vercel/deployments).

@kagarmoe thanks for reporting this, and for spelling out the message you expected — that's what the fix uses. When you pass an installed extension's name to swamp behavior type describe, the error now names the types that extension provides instead of telling you to search the registry and pull it again:
Error: Behavior type not found: @swamp/vercel/deployments
Did you mean @swamp/vercel/deployments/deployments? (provided by installed extension @swamp/vercel/deployments)If the extension provides several types, the error lists them all. This works with --json, under swamp model type describe, and without the leading @. Names that don't match an installed extension still get the registry search hint. It's merged in https://github.com/swamp-club/swamp/pull/3324 and will be in the next release.
