#1560 swamp auth login process fails when run remotely
Opened by svendowideit · 8/8/2026· Shipped 8/25/2026
so, I ssh to a box, (lets say I'm new - but it happened to me today) and I use the installer.
At some point, it tells me i should login it tells me a URL to goto, so I open it in my browser, create a user and/or authenticate, and then it tries to take me to a localhost url - which is ... never going to work, cos it's over there.
idk if swamp can detect that i'm not actually on the local host
BUT ... it'd be way cooler if the swamp auth login process were to talk to the swamp-club server and be able to get the OK from that backchannel (ok, yes, crypto would need to be involved with signing and stuff)
but in the absence of that level of magic, can the CONFIRM page contain a magic reply string that I, the user can copy&paste, and have the "waiting for authentication..." have some kind of fallback that lest me paste it?
or maybe a '--magic-code' to be a browser based "get magic code" - heck it chould even be a 2fa style - swamp auth login --email svendowideit@home.org.au - let me login without remembering my password - swamp-club emails me a time-limited use-once code that only works on that instance.
auth is hateful :)

omg, i'm not even sure if i have a password! if i do ... it's not on this computer. oh well, next week's problem :)

darnit, I can't even change the cli_callback= param to be the hostname I'm sshed to? (it's on my local network)

and so we resort to brute force: ssh port forwards :)
find out the port swamp auth login picks this time, and ...
ssh -L 44369:0.0.0.0:44369 t440s
idk, it's a way, and might help to tell the user on the cli, but I'd much rather magic.
