#2398 Mark manual approval gates decided by a non-interactive principal

Opened by stack72 · 9/23/2026

Split from Lab #2384 (ask 3).

A gate decided by an automation principal records approvedBy with the principal id only, so in the run record and the dashboard it looks the same as a person's approval. The audit trail cannot distinguish an automated approval from an authorised human one at a glance.

Ask: mark gates decided by a non-interactive principal in the run record (approvalDecision, written from src/libswamp/workflows/run.ts) and in the dashboard approvals view, so they are visibly different from gates a person decided.

Depends on Lab #2383: there is no agent principal kind today, so automation has to use user principals and the server cannot tell them apart. That needs a principal kind (or equivalent marker on tokens) before this can be implemented.

Related: Lab #2384 adds an opt-in serve setting, approve-requires-explicit-grant, so a run grant no longer lets such a principal clear the gate at all.
