#2512 serve: --group-refresh-interval warning fires on every non-OAuth boot even when the flag is unset

Opened by stack72 · 9/24/2026· Shipped 9/25/2026

Description

swamp serve in a non-OAuth auth mode (for example --auth-mode token) always logs this warning at boot, even when the operator never set the flag:

--group-refresh-interval is set but --auth-mode oauth is not configured; group refresh is disabled

In src/cli/commands/serve.ts, groupRefreshMs starts at DEFAULT_GROUP_REFRESH_MS (4h) and only changes when merged.groupRefreshInterval is defined. The warning is guarded by groupRefreshMs > 0 && authConfig.mode !== "oauth", so the unset case (the 4h default) passes the guard and the warning fires on every non-OAuth boot.

Steps to reproduce

  1. swamp repo init --tool none
  2. swamp serve --auth-mode token --admins user:alice
  3. The boot log shows the warning above, although --group-refresh-interval was never passed and neither SWAMP_GROUP_REFRESH_INTERVAL nor the config file key is set.

Expected

Warn only when the operator explicitly set the interval (flag, env var or config key) in a non-OAuth mode. With the default, stay silent.

Found while reproducing swamp-club#2413.
