#2997 Installer and README present required Swamp Club login as optional

Opened by stack72 · 10/3/2026· Shipped 10/3/2026

Problem

The post-install path promises that Swamp Club account setup can wait, but the next recommended command cannot run without it. In scripts/install.sh, declining the account prompt prints that the user can connect later, then lists swamp repo init as the first next step. README.md also moves directly from installation to swamp repo init without mentioning login. The auth gate blocks repo init when the user has no credential.

Reproduction

  1. Install Swamp interactively and answer no to the Swamp Club account prompt.
  2. Follow the installer next step or the README Quick Start and run swamp repo init.
  3. The command is blocked and asks for swamp auth login.

Expected

The installer and README should state plainly that a Swamp Club account and swamp auth login are required before swamp repo init. If the user skips login during installation, the installer should direct them to sign in before presenting repo init as the next runnable step. Do not describe account connection as optional for normal CLI use.

Affected components

  • scripts/install.sh account prompt and next-step copy
  • README.md Getting Started / Quick Start
  • Auth gate behavior is intentional; this issue is about the conflicting first-run guidance.
