#1207 Streamline user invitation to swamp.club without requiring collective membership

Opened by alvagante · 7/17/2026

Problem

There is no way to invite someone to join swamp.club as a standalone user. The current onboarding path assumes users either sign up independently or get added to a collective. If I want to bring a collaborator, teammate, or friend into swamp, there's no invite mechanism that says hey, join swamp.club and optionally connects us — without forcing them into one of my collectives.

Proposed Solution

Add an invite command or flow that lets an existing swamp.club user generate an invitation link (or send an email) to a new person. The invite would:

  • Create a signup path for the invitee to join swamp.club as an independent user
  • Optionally associate the invitee with the inviter (e.g. for referral tracking or a social graph) without granting collective membership
  • Not require the inviter to own or manage a collective
  • Possibly support a short message or context (I'm using swamp for X, you should try it)

Alternatives Considered

  • Telling people to go sign up at swamp.club — works but has no connection back to the inviter, no streamlined onboarding, no way to track who brought who
  • Adding them to a collective first — overshares access and forces organizational structure on what might be a casual invite
  • Minting a server token — that's for authenticated access to a specific swamp serve instance, not for platform-level onboarding

Scope

  • A CLI command like swamp auth invite or swamp invite
  • Possibly a web-based invite link generator on swamp.club
  • The invite should work independently of collectives, servers, and repos
