#3669 extension quality crashes with deno doc --json failed when a package.json-mode archive ships a bare import
Opened by skunk-ape · 10/20/2026· Shipped 10/20/2026
Scope 2026-10-20: this issue now covers package.json mode only, grouped with swamp-club#3630 and #3632. The deno.json case moved to swamp-club#3612.
When the source swamp packages still has a bare import, swamp extension quality stops with [FTL] deno doc --json failed ... Failed resolving 'zod' and a stack trace instead of printing the rubric and the bare-specifiers finding. Its local scorer runs deno doc on the archive with only the deno.json imports object to resolve with, so nothing resolves the bare name.
Reached in:
- package.json mode: a bare import resolved through package.json (reproduced by the swamp-club#3637 UAT session on stable 20261019 and on the 3637 branch with a model importing bare zod, a package.json listing zod 4 and node_modules installed);
- deno.json mode, when the import map is reached only through an importMap file reference or scopes: moved to swamp-club#3612 (2026-10-20), which makes push resolve the import map the way Deno does.
Expected: quality prints the rubric with the documentation factors scored as unresolved, reports the bare-specifiers finding and registryScorable false, and exits non-zero for that reason. push already reports the same finding and is unaffected.
swamp-club#3637 retires three swamp-uat quality tests (the --json, log-mode and quality/push parity bare-specifier message tests in tests/cli/extension/quality_test.ts) because of this crash; restore them when it is fixed. Related, out of scope here: swamp-club#3630 (package.json-mode dependencies are not audited).
