#3228 swamp issue edit: a dotted code path in the body is redacted as a hostname

Opened by skunk-ape · 10/10/2026· Shipped 10/10/2026

What happened

swamp issue edit 3190 --title ... --body ... stored the body with one code span replaced: a backticked field path written as work, dot, workflow, dot, name came back from swamp issue get 3190 --json as [HOST-1]. The rest of the body, including other dotted paths such as work.method.modelIdOrName and workflow.name, was stored unchanged.

The same text was intact in the issue as originally filed, so the replacement happens on edit (in the CLI or in swamp-club's handling of the edit).

Why it matters

Issue bodies in this project routinely name code paths and config keys. Treating a three-part dotted identifier inside a code span as a hostname silently changes the issue's meaning, and nothing tells the author it happened.

Repro

  1. swamp issue edit <n> --title "t" --body with a body containing a backticked three-segment dotted path ending in a common TLD-like word (here name).
  2. swamp issue get <n> --json and read .body: the path is replaced by [HOST-1].

Expected

Text inside code spans (and ideally any issue body the author wrote) is stored as written, or the author is told what was redacted and why.

Workaround used: reword the path so it is not three dotted segments.
