#4448 Docs: Claude audit hook covers PowerShell, swamp audit install --user, and doctor audit hook warnings

Opened by stack72 · 11/5/2026

swamp-club#4009 changes how the Claude Code audit hook works. The manual needs to catch up in three pages.

content/manual/how-to/ai-agents/claude-code.md

  • swamp repo init and swamp repo upgrade now write the audit hook with matcher Bash|PowerShell, so calls through Claude Code's PowerShell tool are recorded. swamp repo upgrade widens the Bash-only hook that earlier versions wrote.
  • Claude Code reads .claude/settings.local.json from the git root (the start folder on Windows), so a swamp repo nested below its git root, or a session started above the repo, does not run the repo's hook. swamp audit install --user adds the hook to the Claude Code user settings (~/.claude/settings.json, or settings.json in CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR), which covers every repo. swamp audit uninstall --user removes only the entries swamp added.

content/manual/how-to/use-the-audit-timeline.md

  • With the user-level hook, a call is recorded when its working directory is inside a swamp repo. A cd inside a subshell, or --repo-dir run from above the repo, is not recorded.
  • The user-level hook runs swamp on every Bash and PowerShell call in every project, not only swamp ones.

content/manual/reference/doctor.md

  • agent-config-loadable for Claude now accepts a user-level hook when the repo file has none.
  • It passes with a warning when the repo sits below its git root and no hook can fire, and when the repo and user settings run different audit hooks (each call recorded twice).
  • Log output marks a warned check with ! and adds a "N warned" count; overallStatus is warn, and the JSON check result carries a warning field. Only fail exits non-zero.
