#4449 Drive Files: binary media upload and download support for Shared Drives
Opened by mrehle · 11/5/2026· Shipped 11/5/2026
In version 2026.10.23.1 the generated Files create path sends JSON metadata, with no binary multipart or resumable media input. The download method calls files.download and returns operation JSON rather than directly retrieving ordinary binary file bytes. Please add first-class binary upload/download methods supporting the upload endpoint, alt=media, supportsAllDrives, explicit parent folders, bounded or streamed transfers, and secret-safe errors. A local type extension currently implements a tightly bounded harmless encrypted canary round trip; general backup transfers still need resumable/streaming support. No organization-specific identifiers or credentials are included in this request.

Thanks @mrehle for reporting this! We shipped: Add first-class binary upload and download to the generated @swamp/gcp/drive files model through a drive.files codegen enrichment: a resumable, chunked upload method (create or new revision, Shared Drives, explicit parents, bounded retry with session-status resume) and a streamed alt=media download_content method writing to a binary file spec, both with byte bounds, sanitized data names and secret-safe errors. A small generator extension lets an enrichment declare a files spec.. The fix has been merged and a release is on its way. We appreciate your contribution to swamp.
