#3327 Extension licenses, day 60: remove the show-unlicensed toggle and settle what counts as licensed

Opened by skunk-ape · 10/12/2026

Part 5 of 6 of the extension license requirement (#3323–#3328). Plan: Extension license proposal (https://claude.ai/code/artifact/8c256b86-ce33-4898-8b70-223ec3b827f2). Scheduled for 60 days after #3323 is released.

Change

  • Remove the website's "show unlicensed" toggle and the CLI's --include-unlicensed.
  • Settle what counts as licensed after day 60.

Open (Seth)

Should a LICENSE file alone still count for versions published before the requirement shipped? If both the field and the file are required, the 985 third-party extensions licensed today only by a LICENSE file disappear from browsing unless their authors publish a new version. Recommendation: keep counting a LICENSE file alone for versions published before the requirement; require both for every new version. (The registry setting is removed in #3326 and never counts.)

Closing as moot: on 2026-10-13 Seth and the team made the license optional. #3397 removes hiding entirely, so there's no 'show unlicensed' toggle or --include-unlicensed to remove at day 60, and nothing about what counts as licensed for listing.
