#1416 Docs: add how-to guide for running swamp serve/worker in daemon mode

Opened by stack72 · 7/26/2026· Shipped 7/26/2026

Gap

There is no how-to guide covering how to run swamp serve or swamp worker as a system daemon via daemon enable. The --user flag, --cache-dir, service management (status, disable), and platform differences (launchd on macOS, systemd on Linux) are undocumented.

Suggested content

A how-to guide covering:

  • Enabling swamp serve as a system daemon (root) vs per-user service (--user)
  • Enabling swamp worker as a daemon with --cache-dir, --token, and --label
  • Checking status and reading logs
  • Disabling and removing the service
  • Platform-specific notes (launchd plist location, systemd unit location)

Context

Filed during triage of #1414 — the daemon commands exist but have no user-facing documentation, which contributes to debugging difficulty when setup goes wrong.
